| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of John J. "Jack" Justen of McHenry, who |
| 4 | | passed away on November 21, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Justen was born in McHenry on July 9, 1932 to |
| 6 | | John R. and Evelyn (nee Freund) Justen; he graduated McHenry |
| 7 | | High School in 1949 and attended the University of Illinois at |
| 8 | | Urbana-Champaign, participating in the ROTC program; he |
| 9 | | graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and entered |
| 10 | | the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant, serving |
| 11 | | stateside; he married Beverly D. Blish on September 7, 1958 at |
| 12 | | St. Mary's Church in McHenry and was a lifelong resident of |
| 13 | | McHenry; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, John Justen worked in the field of corporate |
| 15 | | accounting for over 30 years; he was first employed by Burgess |
| 16 | | Vibrocrafters, Inc. in Grayslake for 15 years and then by the |
| 17 | | McHenry Electric Company for over 15 years before retiring; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, John Justen was an active member of St. Mary's |
| 19 | | Church in McHenry, serving as an usher and regularly |
| 20 | | volunteering for church activities, such as the picnic and |
| 21 | | annual rummage sale; he was a member of the Knights of Columbus |
| 22 | | McHenry Council 1288 and was a lifetime member and Fourth |

| 1 | | Degree Knight of Bishop Boylan Assembly #198; he was also a |
| 2 | | member of the McHenry Moose Lodge and called bingo games at the |
| 3 | | McHenry Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600; and |
| 4 | | WHEREAS, John Justen's favorite activities included |
| 5 | | fishing, golf, volleyball, gardening, and dancing, especially |
| 6 | | the polka; he was an avid sports fan and played several sports |
| 7 | | in high school; his love of sports continued throughout his |
| 8 | | lifetime as he lent his skills to neighborhood children who |
| 9 | | needed someone to give them a little coaching assistance or |
| 10 | | just needed someone to play catch with; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, John Justen was preceded in death by his parents; |
| 12 | | his wife, Beverly; his brothers, Eugene and Gerald Justen; and |
| 13 | | his sister, Gladys Ekholm; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, John Justen is survived by his 4 children, Jeffrey |
| 15 | | Justen, Jody Justen, Stacey (Jon) Haapala, and Kristy (William) |
| 16 | | Hecke, and his 4 grandchildren, Nathaniel Justen, Brandon |
| 17 | | Hecke, Jacob Haapala, and Lindsey Haapala; therefore, be it
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
| 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 20 | | John J. "Jack" Justen, and extend our sincere condolences to |
| 21 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 22 | | further
