SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Beatrice Matthews; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Beatrice Matthews was born in Chicago on May 29,
51926 to Horace Calbert and Edna Brooks; she attended Wendell
6Phillips elementary and high schools and earned her cosmetology
7license from Unique Beauty School; she married Ned Matthews in
81946; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Beatrice Matthews worked at Hazel's and later for
10the United States Postal Service as a mail handler until
11retirement; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Beatrice Matthews was a member of Christ Universal
13Temple, where she obtained a Master Certificate from the
14Johnnie Coleman Institute; she volunteered for service in the
1524-hour Prayer Ministry and served as the first President of
16the Ambassadors of Love Club; she was a member of the South
17Side branch of the N.A.A.C.P. Women's Auxiliary; she enjoyed
18traveling around the world; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Beatrice Matthews was preceded in death by her
20parents; her husband, Ned; her daughter, Bridget Matthews; her
21sibling, Gale Wilkins; and her grandchildren, Dino and Nicola;

2    WHEREAS, Beatrice Matthews is survived by her children,
3Christel Davis and Cordell Matthews; her 5 siblings, Hazel
4Garner-Brooks, Donald Clark (Cheryl), LaVonne Curington
5(Harold), and Joyce Calbert; her grandchildren, Lavite, Eddie,
6Cordell (Boo), Jeremy, and Andiana; her 7 great-grandchildren,
7D'Angelo, Kadoshia, Rickey, Christel, Dominique, Johnette, and
8Lil John; her 9 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of
9nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
12Beatrice Matthews, and extend our sincere condolences to her
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Beatrice Matthews as an expression
17of our deepest sympathy.
