SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jack A. Adams, Ph.D., who passed away on
4April 8, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Adams was born in Waukegan on September 9,
61931 to Alexander and Sophia Adams; after a distinguished high
7school academic and athletic career, he attended the University
8of Wisconsin, where he studied toward his undergraduate degree
9and lettered in baseball and basketball; while at Wisconsin, he
10was active in the Army ROTC and received a commission as an
11officer in the United States Army; he served in the Signal
12Corps, spending significant time in the Orient and Europe
13during his career; he resigned his commission in 1962; he
14remained active in the Army Reserve, attaining the rank of Lt.
15Colonel and was the presiding officer of the Waukegan Arsenal
16during the cold war era; and
 
17    WHEREAS, At the conclusion of his Army career, Dr. Adams
18pursued his passion for higher education, attending Roosevelt
19University and Northwestern University, earning a Ph.D. in
20educational administration; during this time, he held
21associate and full professorships at both institutions; he also
22spearheaded efforts to fund and found the College of Lake
23County as President of the College of Lake County Association;

1after receipt of his doctorate, he pursued a career that
2eventually led to the University of San Diego, where he was the
3Director of Special Projects and a Professor of Educational
4Administration; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Adams was an avid skier and horticulturalist
6and after his retirement in 1999, he operated a private flower
7farm in Escondido, California; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Adams was preceded in death by his brother,
9John; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Adams is survived by his brother, Paul
11(Adrienne) Adams; his 3 sons, Gregory (Karen), Jeffrey (Pati),
12and Paul; and his 6 grandchildren, Cameron, Zachary, Tyler,
13Lucas, Evan, and Emily; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Jack A. Adams, Ph.D., and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Dr. Adams as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
