SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Eugene Shea, who passed away on March 31,
42015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eugene Shea was born on August 14, 1928 in
6Waukegan; his parents were Laurello and Alice (nee Sweeney)
7Shea; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Eugene Shea graduated from Waukegan High School
9and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education
10from National Lewis University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, In 1950, Eugene Shea entered the United States
12Army; he served in the field artillery during the Korean
13Conflict; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Eugene Shea taught elementary education at
15Immaculate Conception School in Waukegan and Oakland Grade
16School and Antioch Grade School in Antioch; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Eugene Shea began teaching baton twirling lessons
18at the age of 18 at the YMCA and the Catholic Community Center
19in Waukegan before owning and operating Shea's Baton and Dance
20Studio on Grand Avenue in Waukegan for many years; he was also

1an active member of the National Baton Twirling Judges
2Association until his passing; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Eugene Shea was the recipient of the Twirl Mania
4Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eugene Shea is survived by a brother, George Shea;
62 sisters, Alice (Warren "Butch") Brownlee and Anne Shea; and
7his countless former students and fellow baton twirling
8enthusiasts from throughout the United States, Canada, and
9Europe; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
12family and friends, mourn the passing of Eugene Shea; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Eugene Shea as an expression of our
16sympathy.
