SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Marie T. (nee Vilona) Wilt, who passed away on December 14, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Marie Wilt was born in Chicago on January 27, 1931; she graduated form Austin High School in 1947; she completed her graduate nursing degree at Little Company of Mary School of Nursing from 1949 to 1952 and her post-graduate obstetric nursing education at Chicago Lying-In Hospital, University of Chicago, from 1952 to 1953; she married Edward F. Wilt, M.D. on April 11, 1953 at Resurrection Church in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Marie Wilt continued her obstetrical nursing experience at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit as assistant supervisor, obstetrical delivery rooms, 1953-1956; She was later employed as medical receptionist and office nursing supervisor in her husband's practice in Crystal Lake from 1990 to 1996; she was a McHenry Hospital Auxiliary member for 56 years; and

WHEREAS, Marie Wilt encouraged reading as Chairperson of the McHenry Library Book Club for over 17 years; she devoted time and energy to the Landmark Commission and to the Civil War Round Table, including administering the Edward Wilt Civil War Scholarship for McHenry County high school seniors; she was a member of the Volo Bog Association and the McHenry County Historical Society since 1965; she was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 491 and the Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600; she was active in her church; and

WHEREAS, Marie Wilt was a Civil War 19th century historical costume re-creationist and was talented in sewing, quilting, and needlepoint, with special interest in Victorian and Civil War women's dress; she lectured about and demonstrated Civil War era nurse's and women's dresses and uniforms at many venues in McHenry County; she was a docent who attended city and school events as "living history" in Civil War era costumes, teaching children and their parents about life during those times; she was membership chairperson, program developer, and, along with her husband, a charter member of the McHenry County Civil War Round Table discussion group; and

WHEREAS, Marie Wilt, through her appointment to the McHenry Landmark Commission, enthusiastically and tirelessly devoted time and energy in the promotion, restoration, and preservation of historic structures, including securing funding for the Historic Petersen Farm Homestead and the historical designation of the Samantha Button house; her dream for an open-air museum in McHenry evolved into the Landmark Commission's "Day at Petersen Farm" - a much-loved tradition; for these contributions, the City of McHenry proclaimed November 12, 2014 as "Marie Wilt Day"; and

WHEREAS, Marie Wilt was the ultimate mom to her 3 children, Dr. Carol Perenchio (Martin Perenchio), Timothy Wilt, M.D. (Kristine Ensrud, M.D.), and Peter Wilt (Ann Wilt), and Grandma to her 5 grandchildren, Bryan (fiancee, Karen Petsche), Evan (Kathryn) and Kathleen Darger, and Grete and Ingrid Wilt; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Marie T. Wilt, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marie Wilt as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
