SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ruth E. Merriman of Wauconda, who passed
4away on December 15, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ruth Merriman was born in Chicago on May 11, 1922
6to William and Elizabeth (nee Sheparski) Schloen; she graduated
7from Lucy Flower Technical High School in Chicago; she married
8William Frederick Merriman on February 14, 1942; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ruth Merriman worked for Avon Products in Morton
10Grove and United Airlines in Elk Grove; she was the first
11female to be voted President of a school board in the State of
12Illinois; she spent many hours as a volunteer with the
13Salvation Army and other volunteer programs; her most extensive
14volunteerism was at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ruth Merriman enjoyed traveling throughout the
16world; she was actively involved in the Girl Scouts and
17parent-teachers association; as a young girl, she was a member
18of Job's Daughters Masonic organization at Myrtle Masonic
19Temple in Chicago; as an adult, she became the Guardian and
20then Deputy Grand Guardian of that organization; she was also a
21member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 70 years;

1    WHEREAS, Ruth Merriman was preceded in death by her parents
2and her husband; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Ruth Merriman is survived by her sister, Eleanor
4Schloen Anderson; her 3 children, Steven Charles (Arlene)
5Merriman, Sue Carole (Dale) Strang, and William Glen (Bonnie)
6Merriman; her grandchildren, Deanna Grivetti, Melissa Blunk,
7Jennifer Burdick, Tim Merriman, Stephanie Merriman, Kevin
8Merriman, Christopher Merriman, and Amanda Merriman; her
9great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Grivetti, Sarah Grivetti, Leah
10Grivetti, Hannah Grivetti, and Bailey Merriman; her nephews,
11Andrew Anderson and Laurence (Diane) Anderson; and her niece,
12Nancy (Robert) Hoffman; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Ruth E. Merriman, and extend our sincere condolences to her
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Ruth Merriman as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
