2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Ruth E. Merriman of Wauconda, who passed |
4 | | away on December 15, 2014; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Merriman was born in Chicago on May 11, 1922 |
6 | | to William and Elizabeth (nee Sheparski) Schloen; she graduated |
7 | | from Lucy Flower Technical High School in Chicago; she married |
8 | | William Frederick Merriman on February 14, 1942; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Merriman worked for Avon Products in Morton |
10 | | Grove and United Airlines in Elk Grove; she was the first |
11 | | female to be voted President of a school board in the State of |
12 | | Illinois; she spent many hours as a volunteer with the |
13 | | Salvation Army and other volunteer programs; her most extensive |
14 | | volunteerism was at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Merriman enjoyed traveling throughout the |
16 | | world; she was actively involved in the Girl Scouts and |
17 | | parent-teachers association; as a young girl, she was a member |
18 | | of Job's Daughters Masonic organization at Myrtle Masonic |
19 | | Temple in Chicago; as an adult, she became the Guardian and |
20 | | then Deputy Grand Guardian of that organization; she was also a |
21 | | member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 70 years; |

1 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Merriman was preceded in death by her parents |
2 | | and her husband; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Merriman is survived by her sister, Eleanor |
4 | | Schloen Anderson; her 3 children, Steven Charles (Arlene) |
5 | | Merriman, Sue Carole (Dale) Strang, and William Glen (Bonnie) |
6 | | Merriman; her grandchildren, Deanna Grivetti, Melissa Blunk, |
7 | | Jennifer Burdick, Tim Merriman, Stephanie Merriman, Kevin |
8 | | Merriman, Christopher Merriman, and Amanda Merriman; her |
9 | | great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Grivetti, Sarah Grivetti, Leah |
10 | | Grivetti, Hannah Grivetti, and Bailey Merriman; her nephews, |
11 | | Andrew Anderson and Laurence (Diane) Anderson; and her niece, |
12 | | Nancy (Robert) Hoffman; therefore, be it
|
13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
15 | | Ruth E. Merriman, and extend our sincere condolences to her |
16 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
17 | | further

18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
19 | | presented to the family of Ruth Merriman as an expression of |
20 | | our deepest sympathy.
