| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Mabel Rosetta Kinser Cole, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on April 17, 2015; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Mabel Cole was born on August 16, 1910 east of | ||||||
| 6 | Virden; her parents were John Michael and Ellen Otey Kinser; | ||||||
| 7 | she married George Allen Cole on April 5, 1931 at her parents' | ||||||
| 8 | home west of Greenfield; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Mabel Cole moved to Greenfield at the age of 9; | ||||||
| 10 | after graduating from Greenfield High School in 1928, she | ||||||
| 11 | attended 6 weeks of training at Illinois State Teachers College | ||||||
| 12 | in Normal and began teaching in a one-room country school; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Mabel Cole led 4-H clubs, taught Sunday school | ||||||
| 14 | classes, and was actively involved in the Home Bureau while | ||||||
| 15 | raising her children; she then resumed teaching school by | ||||||
| 16 | accepting the position to teach Head Start in Nilwood; she | ||||||
| 17 | later taught at schools in Girard and Palmyra; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Mabel Cole was an avid reader a writer of poems, | ||||||
| 19 | prose, and short stories; she also loved writing contest | ||||||
| 20 | entries and won several prizes, including a trip to the New | ||||||
| 21 | York World's Fair, while a member of the Springfield Contest | ||||||

| 1 | Club; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, In 1991, Mabel Cole was honored by Lt. Governor | ||||||
| 3 | Corinne Wood with the Illinois Woman of Achievement Award; she | ||||||
| 4 | was also inducted into the Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame in 2007 | ||||||
| 5 | and was the last surviving founding member of the Silver | ||||||
| 6 | Strands Senior Citizens Center in Palmyra; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, As a child, Mabel Cole attended Wesley Chapel | ||||||
| 8 | Church east of Virden; she later attended Greenfield First | ||||||
| 9 | Baptist Church, where she held membership throughout her life; | ||||||
| 10 | and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Mabel Cole was preceded in death by her parents; | ||||||
| 12 | her husband; 2 brothers, Guy and Lynn Kinser; a sister, Floy | ||||||
| 13 | Kinser Chapman; and a grandson, Jonathan Vial; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Mabel Cole and her husband were the parents of 4 | ||||||
| 15 | children, David (Shirley), Gale (Joy), Nancy Vial, and Kendall | ||||||
| 16 | (Charlot); they also had 13 grandchildren, 33 | ||||||
| 17 | great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren; | ||||||
| 18 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her | ||||||
| 21 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Mabel Rosetta Kinser | ||||||

| 1 | Cole; and be it further
| ||||||
| 2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 3 | presented to the family of Mabel Cole as an expression of our | ||||||
| 4 | sympathy.
