SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Merrill K. Douglass of Woodstock, who
4passed away on March 16, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Merrill Douglass was born in Hebron Township on
6July 22, 1910 to Edwin and Emma (nee Boughton) Douglass; he
7married Delia Riemer on October 8, 1936 in Wisconsin; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Merrill Douglass was a dairy farmer; he farmed
9with his father from 1933 until going on his own in 1945; he
10worked his own farms in the Greenwood and Woodstock areas until
111958; he also did custodial work for Woodstock High School and
12then Dean Street School until retiring in 1975; he was
13instrumental in the creation of School District 10, which
14encompassed rural schools in the Woodstock area; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After his retirement, Merrill Douglass traveled
16extensively, visiting family and friends, and finally settled
17in Walworth Wisconsin for many years; he returned to Woodstock
18in 1984; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Merrill Douglass was preceded in death by his
20wife, Delia; his daughter, Ruth Freund; his grandson, Thomas
21Freund; his brothers, Leslie, Eugene, and Glenn; and his

1sisters, Ethelin, Lorraine, and Eva Jane; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Merrill Douglass is survived by his children,
3Delbert Douglas (Marilyn Payne), Frederick (Elizabeth)
4Douglass, Janet (Jonathon) Douglass-Davis, John (Mary)
5Douglass, Rosemary (Barney) Alewine, and Richard (Jill)
6Douglass; his grandchildren, Valerie (Brian) Berryhill, Joyce
7Prickett, Donna Everett, Jerome (Sharon) Freund, Brenda Hills,
8Teri (Bruce) Marks, Michael (Claire) Douglass, Eileen Foreman,
9Daniel Douglass, Donna Lonza, Andrew (Kristen) Douglass,
10Jennifer Douglass, Michele Aavang (Ron Behrens), Catherine
11(Arlyn) Roush, Robert Aavang (Matthew Cieniewski), Thomas
12Douglass, Patrick Douglass, Ruth (Josh) Burt, Robin (Joseph)
13Schultz, Randall Alewine, Benjamin Douglass, and Kyle
14Douglass; his step-grandchildren, David Davis (Julie Casey),
15Matthew Davis, Brandon (Stacy) Davis, and Michelle (Jason)
16Deliso; his 44 great-grandchildren; his 13
17great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews;
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Merrill K. Douglass, and extend our sincere condolences to his
22family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
