| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Dr. Henry Szlachta, who passed away on |
| 4 | | April 19, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Henry Szlachta was born on June 11, 1928 on a |
| 6 | | small farm in upstate New York; he married Margaret Galloway in |
| 7 | | May of 1957; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Henry Szlachta attended Cornell University in |
| 9 | | Ithaca, New York, where he spent one year in undergraduate |
| 10 | | studies before he was accepted into veterinary school; he |
| 11 | | subsequently earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from |
| 12 | | Cornell, where he was second in his class; during his studies, |
| 13 | | he did groundbreaking research on the rabies virus that is now |
| 14 | | included in the Veterinary Pathology Manual; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, After graduating in 1950, Dr. Henry Szlachta |
| 16 | | became Director of the research lab at Cornell University; from |
| 17 | | 1950 to 1953, he served his country in the United States Army |
| 18 | | Veterinary Corps, serving in both Korea and Japan before |
| 19 | | receiving an honorable discharge in 1953; and |
| 20 | | WHEREAS, In 1953, Dr. Henry Szlachta relocated to northern |
| 21 | | Illinois and established a farm animal veterinary practice |
