SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Michael Joseph "Mike" Mooney, who passed
4away on April 14, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Mooney was born in Harvard on November 17,
61961 to Walter W. and Margaret M. Mooney; he graduated from
7Harvard High School and joined the United States Marines and
8served for 10 years, retiring as a sergeant; and
 
9    WHEREAS, After his honorable discharge from the Marine
10Corps, Mike Mooney moved to Duluth in the early 1990s, holding
11a variety of positions until he found his work "home" at the
12Black Woods Group, working at Black Woods, Black Water Lounge,
13and the Greysolon Ballroom; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Mike Mooney enjoyed his Irish heritage, cooking,
15reading, physics, animals, his Marine Corps family, his Black
16Woods family, and spending time with his daughter, Mackenzie,
17whom he loved fiercely; he was an avid fan of the Chicago
18Bears, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Blackhawks, and Notre Dame
19football; he attended St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church
20in Duluth; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Mike Mooney was preceded in death by his father,

1Walter; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Mike Mooney is survived by his daughter, Mackenzie
3J. Shelton; his mother, Margaret M. Mooney; his sisters, Helen
4Mooney, Linda (John) Allington, Jean (Todd) Iversen, and
5Maureen Talarico; his nieces and nephews, Ryan, Joe, and
6Marissa Stafford, Jacob and Grant Allington, Jake Iversen, Erin
7(Louis) Arellano, and Isaak Talarico; and his great-niece, Esme
8Arellano; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Michael Joseph "Mike" Mooney, and extend our sincere
12condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13him; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Mike Mooney as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
