| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Martin L. Zeigler of Urbana, who passed |
| 4 | | away on May 3, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Martin Zeigler was born near Mechanicsburg, |
| 6 | | Pennsylvania on September 18, 1921 to Samuel W. and Mary E. |
| 7 | | Zeigler; he graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in 1940 |
| 8 | | and Penn State University in 1943 with a Bachelor of Arts; he |
| 9 | | served in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant in the |
| 10 | | infantry, where he commanded a heavy weapons platoon in Europe |
| 11 | | and the Battle of the Bulge; he retired with the rank of First |
| 12 | | Lieutenant in 1945; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Martin Zeigler returned to Penn State University |
| 14 | | to earn a master's degree in political science, followed by a |
| 15 | | Ph.D. in psychology; he remained on the university staff for 14 |
| 16 | | years; he then accepted a position as senior administrator at |
| 17 | | the University of Illinois, where he focused on the development |
| 18 | | of institutional studies to support the university's budget |
| 19 | | request as it processed through the university, the Board of |
| 20 | | Higher Education, and the Illinois General Assembly; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Martin Zeigler was preceded in death by his |
| 22 | | parents; his 5 siblings; and his wife, Sophia; and
