SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Martin L. Zeigler of Urbana, who passed
4away on May 3, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Martin Zeigler was born near Mechanicsburg,
6Pennsylvania on September 18, 1921 to Samuel W. and Mary E.
7Zeigler; he graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in 1940
8and Penn State University in 1943 with a Bachelor of Arts; he
9served in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant in the
10infantry, where he commanded a heavy weapons platoon in Europe
11and the Battle of the Bulge; he retired with the rank of First
12Lieutenant in 1945; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Martin Zeigler returned to Penn State University
14to earn a master's degree in political science, followed by a
15Ph.D. in psychology; he remained on the university staff for 14
16years; he then accepted a position as senior administrator at
17the University of Illinois, where he focused on the development
18of institutional studies to support the university's budget
19request as it processed through the university, the Board of
20Higher Education, and the Illinois General Assembly; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Martin Zeigler was preceded in death by his
22parents; his 5 siblings; and his wife, Sophia; and

1    WHEREAS, Martin Zeigler is survived by his 3 children,
2Martin, Jr., Robert, and Catherine; his 6 grandchildren; and
3his great-granddaughter; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Martin L. Zeigler, and extend our sincere condolences to his
7family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Martin Zeigler as an expression of
11our deepest sympathy.
