SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charles G. "Sam" Smith of Woodstock, who
4passed away on April 19, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charles Smith was born on September 2, 1919 in
6Hebron; his parents were Charles and Jennie (nee DenBesten)
7Smith; he married Marie G. Scaran on July 5, 1947 in Chicago;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Charles Smith served in the United States Army Air
10Forces in the Pacific theatre during World War II; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Charles Smith worked as a school bus driver for
12Woodstock School District 200 until his retirement; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Charles Smith was a skilled woodworker who
14handcrafted and painted ornamental birds that now grace the
15landscape of relatives and friends; he also excelled at bridge
16and pinochle; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Charles Smith was a longtime member of St. Mary
18Catholic Church in Woodstock; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Charles Smith was preceded in death by his

1parents; 4 sisters; and 3 brothers; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Charles Smith is survived by his wife of 68 years,
3Marie; a daughter, Cynthia "Cindi" (Norman) Davern; a son,
4Charles "Jamie" Smith; 4 grandsons, Michael Davern, Justin
5Davern, Andrew Davern, and Aidan Smith; a great-granddaughter,
6Sawyer Davern; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
9family and friends, mourn the passing of Charles G. "Sam"
10Smith; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Charles Smith as an expression of
13our sympathy.
