SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Rev. Howard Nichols, Sr. of Chicago, who 
4passed away on March 22, 2015; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Rev. Nichols, Sr. was born in Canton, Mississippi 
6on August 17, 1936 to Walter and Rosie Nichols; he received his 
7Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Roosevelt University; he 
8married Ruth E. Hudson in 1955; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, In 1954, Rev. Nichols, Sr. joined Pleasant Gift 
10Missionary Baptist Church; he preached his first sermon there 
11in 1968 and became head pastor in 1989; and
  
 

  
12    WHEREAS, Rev. Nichols, Sr. is survived by his wife, Ruth; 
13his children, Debra, Shari (Curtis, Sr.), Krista (Greg), Marva 
14(Thomas), and Howard, Jr.; and a host of grandchildren, other 
15family, friends, and the congregation of Pleasant Gift MB 
16Church; therefore, be it
  
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL 
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
19Rev. Howard Nichols, Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to 
20his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
