| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Donald E. Wehrli of Naperville, who |
| 4 | | passed away on May 17, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Donald Wehrli was born on February 28, 1928; he |
| 6 | | grew up in the original Pre-Emption House on Chicago Avenue in |
| 7 | | downtown Naperville and attended Saints Peter & Paul Grade |
| 8 | | School and Naperville High School, graduating in 1946; he |
| 9 | | served as a United States Army Records Specialist; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Donald Wehrli managed the Dickenson Jam & Jelly |
| 11 | | Shop in Disneyland in the 1950s, where Walt Disney told him, |
| 12 | | "Don, there is great satisfaction in making other people |
| 13 | | happy"; he began Naperville Trolley & Tours in 1995 and |
| 14 | | delighted in telling the history of Naperville and welcoming |
| 15 | | people aboard to celebrate their happy occasions; the business |
| 16 | | grew to 4 trolleys and was recently sold to his daughter; he |
| 17 | | was elected to the Naperville City Council from 1983 to 1987; |
| 18 | | and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Donald Wehrli played in, and later refereed, the |
| 20 | | annual Turkey Bowl football game; he was fond of sayings and |
| 21 | | pleased to be published in Bits & Pieces: "Live a Life of |
| 22 | | Awareness"; and
|
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Donald Wehrli directed his energies toward |
| 2 | | gardening, exercise, speaking at public forums, working to |
| 3 | | support his family, volunteering for Naperville Evening |
| 4 | | Kiwanis, and helping to build the Naperville Riverwalk; he was |
| 5 | | a Past Commander of American Legion Naperville Post 43, |
| 6 | | inducted into the Saints Peter & Paul School Hall of Honors in |
| 7 | | 2006, and received the Naperville Jaycees Lifetime Achievement |
| 8 | | Award in 2011; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Donald Wehrli is survived by his wife of 63 years, |
| 10 | | Jean Knoch; his 7 children, Mary Lou (Herb), Win (Deborah), |
| 11 | | Fred (Anne), Jill, Francie, Annette, and Grant (Sharon); his 14 |
| 12 | | grandchildren Sarah, Megan (Travis), Lauren (Josh), Michelle |
| 13 | | (Aaron), Dana, Michael (Colleen), Austin, Elizabeth, Kayla, |
| 14 | | Colette, Jack, Jake, Joe, and Luke; and his 2 |
| 15 | | great-grandchildren, Emma and Ben; therefore, be it

| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
| 17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 18 | | Donald E. Wehrli, and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 19 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 20 | | further
