SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Warren Arthur Harris of Peoria, who
4passed away on May 17, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Warren Harris was born in Peoria on September 19,
61936 to Ruth (nee Hulquist) and Clarence Harris; he attended
7Peoria Heights Grade School, Woodruff High School, and Bradley
8University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in
9Business; he married Patricia McFarlane on July 29, 1961; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Warren Harris was employed as a systems analyst by
11Caterpillar, Inc., retiring in 1999; he served on several City
12of Peoria commissions and was precinct committeeman for the
13Uplands Neighborhood Association and President of the West
14Bluff Council in 1987; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Warren Harris was a member the Universalist
16Unitarian Church, where he served as President in the 1980s and
17received the Outstanding Service Award from the church in 2007;
18he marched for civil rights and the peace movement and
19supported equal rights for women and LGBT individuals; after
20retirement, he volunteered at Springdale Cemetery; he served as
21Vice-President of the Peoria Chapter of the ACLU and received
22the David Citron Award in 2008 for his contributions to civil

1rights in the Peoria area; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Warren Harris was affectionately called "Uncle
3Warnie"; he enjoyed politics, reading, movies, dogs, crossword
4puzzles, the dictionary, the writings of Robert G. Ingersoll,
5and music; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Warren Harris was preceded in death by his
7brother, the Rev. Gerald Harris; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Warren Harris is survived by his wife, Patricia;
9his 5 daughters, Margaret Lee (Bill) Schmider, Kathleen
10Michelle (Tom) Hafele, Joan Marie (Shannon) Walden, Elizabeth
11Jean (Matt) Allen, and Michelle Therese (Troy) Adams; his 12
12grandchildren, Michael Harris, Joshua Harris, Jessica and
13Jennifer Schmider, Jake and Kassidy Hafele, Kyle and Delaney
14Walden, MacKenzie and Jack Allen, and Ayla and Bowie Adams; his
155 great-grandchildren, Jayden, Caylee, Brooklyn, Naevia, and
16Liam; his sisters, Donna (Bob) Norman and Doris Kamrowski; his
17sister-in-law, Joan Harris; and many nieces and nephews and
18other relatives; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Warren Arthur Harris, and extend our sincere condolences to his
22family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
