SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, In response to the September 11 terrorist attacks 
3and the natural disasters that have occurred around the 
4country, it has become necessary to have Emergency Response 
5Plans at the national and local levels of government; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has made the 
7commitment to make certain that awareness and training takes 
8place in responding to those emergencies; and
 
9    WHEREAS, In an effort to increase awareness about emergency 
10preparedness activities, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. 
11instituted an initiative entitled Emergency Response Team. the 
12Emergency Response Team initiative includes programming and 
13training that is supported by its collegiate and alumnae 
14members on local, regional, and national levels; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, The mission of the Delta Emergency Response Team  
16is to: increase awareness about emergency preparedness 
17activities; provide structure and systematic training for the 
18memberships's Readiness, Response, and Recovery efforts; 
19provide effective and immediate communication strategies  to 
20facilitate and aid preparedness and response; provide steps for 
21early response and efficient recovery; and to provide resource 
22support and guidance for sorority members and the communities

1impacted by natural or man-made disasters; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. emphasizes the 
3importance of securing the safety and well-being of senior 
4citizens through ensuring that its Delta Dears receive 
5resources and support from local chapters; Delta Sigma Theta 
6Sorority, Inc. recognizes Delta Dears as members who are 62 
7years and older that have displayed dedication to upholding the 
8ideals and traditions of the sorority; Delta Sigma Theta 
9Sorority, Inc. has partnered with AARP Illinois to execute this 
10initiative and to ensure that the organization continues to 
11remain focused on the needs of senior citizens in the 
12community; and
  
 

  
13    WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will be holding 
14an "Emergency Response Weekend" the weekend of September 11, 
152015 that will include activities to highlight the importance 
16of being trained in the event of a natural disaster or state of 
17emergency; therefore, be it
  
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL 
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare the weekend 
20of September 11, 2015 as "Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. 
21Emergency Response Weekend"; and be it further
  
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
