SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Allen B. Smith of McHenry, who passed
4away on May 16, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Allen Smith was born in Kokomo, Indiana on May 21,
61948 to Bernell and Nora J. (nee Hawk) Smith; he married
7Kristine Hofstetter on March 9, 1974 at Atonement Lutheran
8Church in San Diego, California; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Allen Smith was employed by Western Electric for
10several years before enlisting with the United States Navy; he
11served as a communication specialist for 20 years and was
12discharged as an E-6; after being discharged, he was employed
13by Atlas Copco in Mundelein and later by Lucent Technology for
1410 years; he then worked for North Point Communication,
15retiring in 2001; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Allen Smith was a longtime member of Shepherd of
17the Hills Lutheran Church in McHenry; he was also a lifetime
18member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
1911496; he was a dedicated family man and enjoyed going on road
20trips, shopping trips, and fishing trips with his family; he
21had a passion for cooking and loved to host barbecues to get
22together with his friends and neighbors; he was active with the

1Boy Scouts of America in Kokomo while he was growing up and the
2Johnsburg Boy Scouts Troop 455 from 1987 to 1994 when his sons
3were scouts; he was an avid nature lover and was very
4supportive of projects supporting the preservation of nature;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Allen Smith was preceded in death by his parents;
7his son, Daniel; his 2 grandchildren, Keegan and Richie; and
8his brother, Burnell "Bobby" Smith, Jr.; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Allen Smith is survived by his wife of 41 years,
10Kristine; his 3 children, LeAnna (Paul) Anderson, Brian (Cindy)
11Smith, and Lisa (Karter) Rich; and his 4 grandchildren, Trevor,
12Abigail, Aric, and Lucy; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Allen B. Smith, and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, his friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Allen Smith as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
