SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Paul S. Penn of Bloomington, who passed
4away on May 7, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Paul Penn was born in Bloomington on April 2, 1925
6to John F. and Mary Ethel Herrin Penn; he married June Marble
7on October 9, 1946 in Bloomington; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Paul Penn was a World War II United States Army
9Veteran, serving in Europe from 1943 to 1945; he was awarded
10with the WWII Victory Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, a
11Europe-Africa-Middle East Ribbon, the Army Overseas Service
12Ribbon, and 4 Bronze Battle Stars; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Paul Penn was a member of LiUNA Laborer's Local
14#362 for over 60 years; he served as business manager/business
15agent from 1958 to 1991 and received the WJBC Laborer of the
16Year Award; he started the Laborer's Local #362 Pension and
17Health and Welfare Insurance Fund; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Paul Penn gave back to the community through
19volunteer work with Laborer's Local #362; he gave his time to
20numerous organizations, including the American Legion Baseball
21Facility at O'Neil Park, the Vietnam Memorial at Miller Park,

1the Four Freedoms WWII Memorial at the McLean County
2Courthouse, the Baby Fold, St. Mary's School, the Community
3Cancer Center, the YMCA, and the YWCA; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Paul Penn was honored as a History Maker by the
5McLean County Historical Society; he enjoyed golf and had 4
6holes-in-one in his life; he was a member and very active in
7the YMCA and St. Mary's Church, both in Bloomington; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Paul Penn was preceded in death by his son, David
9Penn; his granddaughter, Polly Jo Jaspers; his brother, William
10F. Penn; and his 3 sisters, Jean Powell, Joan Arnold, and Mary
11Elizabeth Penn; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Paul Penn is survived by his wife, June; his 3
13children, Don (Norma) Penn, Linda (Mark) Drane, and John (Mary)
14Penn; his 8 grandchildren, Michael, Tony, Eric, and Ryan Penn,
15Tammy Barnes, Shawn Marie Eiker, Jeff Penn, and Lacy Fidler;
16his 14 great-grandchildren; his 2 great-great-grandchildren;
17his brother, Hank (Wilma) Nelson; and his sister, Joyce Alvis;
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Paul S. Penn, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
22friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Paul Penn as an expression of our
3deepest sympathy.
