SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Alice Christine Saudargas; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas was born on May 18, 1916 in
5Fairdale; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas graduated with a master's degree
7in education from Northern Illinois University; while there,
8she met her husband, Alex Saudargas; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas worked as a special education
10teacher before becoming principal of Elmwood Center, a school
11for emotionally disturbed children; she retired from the school
12district in 1986; during her career, she led committees to help
13make the Rockford schools more inclusive of all children and to
14maintain the legacy of West High School; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas was the oldest serving school
16board member in the State of Illinois; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas was honored by the City of
18Rockford in 2011 with an "Alice Saudargas Day" for her lifelong
19contributions and commitment to Rockford, education, and
20children; and

1    WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas was preceded in death by a
2daughter; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas is survived by 9 children; 16
4grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and the hundreds of
5students she supported and mentored throughout her long career;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
9family and friends, mourn the passing of Alice Christine
10Saudargas; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Alice Saudargas as an expression of
13our sympathy.
