SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of George J. Kottemann of Peoria, who passed
4away on June 1, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Kottemann married Norma Rodems on June 29,
61952; and
 
7    WHEREAS, George Kottemann practiced orthodontics in Peoria
8for 34 years; after he retired, he had a second career in
9forensic dentistry and served with DMORT (Disaster Mortuary
10Operational Response Teams) to identify disaster victims,
11including several weeks in New York City after 9/11; and
 
12    WHEREAS, George Kottemann held leadership roles in a number
13of Peoria civic groups, including the Peoria Art Guild and
14Easter Seals; with his wife, he helped establish the Kottemann
15Gallery of Dentistry at the University of Illinois-Chicago
16Dental School and the sculpture studio at Bradley University's
17Heuser Hall; he led alumni activities at Peoria High School and
18the University of Illinois; he was instrumental in fundraising
19and planning for the sculpture "Portal", recently erected on
20Washington Street in Peoria; and
 
21    WHEREAS, George Kottemann and his wife traveled

1extensively, often to places that allowed them to indulge in
2their love of contemporary art; and
 
3    WHEREAS, George Kottemann was preceded in death by his
4parents, Freda and William H. Kottemann, and his brother,
5William P. Kottemann; and
 
6    WHEREAS, George Kottemann is survived by his wife, Norma;
7his 2 children, Kathy (Jim) Wire and Karl (Suzi) Kottemann; his
85 grandchildren, Philip (Chelsea) Wire, Kara (Roi)
9Castellanos, Patty (Allan) Thompson, Kristin Kottemann, and
10Leslie (Patrick) Spellman; his great-granddaughter; and his
11sister, Dorothy Westly; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14George J. Kottemann, and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of George Kottemann as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
