SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lorene Agnes Sabonjian, who passed away
4on May 24, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lorene Sabonjian was born in Higbee, Missouri on
6December 11, 1916 to James Robert and Mandana Terrill; she
7graduated from Huntsville High School in 1935 and, after
8passing the Missouri Teaching exams, taught students in a
9nearby rural school for several months; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lorene Sabonjian moved to Kansas City in the fall
11of 1935 and married in 1936; when that marriage did not work
12out, she joined the United States Navy; she attended Boot Camp
13at Hunter College in New York state; from there she went to
14Milledgeville, Georgia and then on to her first post in Crane,
15Indiana; she held the position of bookkeeper in the base's
16supply office; her next and last duty station was at Naval
17Station Great Lakes, where she worked in the Separation and
18Terminal Leave Center; she attained the rank of ACSK while
19working to discharge the WAVES and sailors at Great Lakes; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Lorene Sabonjian married Robert V. Sabonjian on
21June 7, 1947; they opened Dutch Mill Cleaners in 1948; in 1957,
22her husband ran for Mayor of Waukegan and she spent 24 years as

1Waukegan's First Lady; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Lorene Sabonjian was a member of the First
3Christian Church in Waukegan, where she served as an Elder and
4Church Treasurer; she also served as the regional President of
5The Church Women United; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lorene Sabonjian and her husband traveled
7extensively to places such as Hawaii, England, Monaco, The
8Canary Islands, Australia, Israel, Greece, and Egypt; she kept
9active by playing bridge, bowling, traveling to visit
10relatives, and walking everyday with her new best friend, her
11Bichon Frise named Beau; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lorene Sabonjian was preceded in death by her
13husband, Robert; her daughter, Dana Jo; her brothers, John and
14Irving; and her sisters, Violet, Victory, and Lillian; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Lorene Sabonjian is survived by her son, Robert
16Glenn (Jo An); her grandson, Adam Wesley (Lynn) Domerchie and
17their sons, Jayson and Ryan; she is also survived by numerous
18nieces and nephews spread throughout the world; therefore, be
19it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

2her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it

4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
