SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Elmer F. "Bud" Pflug, Jr., who passed
4away on June 8, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Elmer Pflug, Jr. was born in Melrose Park on
6October 12, 1927 to Elmer, Sr. and Ruth (nee Brust) Pflug; he
7married Marion Ann Credity in North Lake on November 14, 1953;
8he served his country in the United States Marine Corps during
9World War II and the Korean War; during the Korean War, he
10participated in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir, becoming
11part of the brotherhood of the "Frozen Chosin"; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Elmer Pflug, Jr. began his career as an insurance
13agent at the family insurance agency, Pflug & Sons Insurance,
14where he worked for many years; after moving to Johnsburg, he
15was employed as an engineer in the Plant Operations Department
16of Northern Illinois Medical Center, which later became
17Centegra Hospital-McHenry; he retired in 1993 after 15 years of
18employment; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Elmer Pflug, Jr. enjoyed spending time with his
20family at their house on Harris Lake in Winchester, Wisconsin;
21his other pastimes included reading, fishing, word puzzles, and
22playing cards; he was a longtime member of Zion Evangelical

1Lutheran Church in McHenry; he was also a member of the McHenry
2County Marine Corps League, where he participated in the Toys
3for Tots program; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Elmer Pflug, Jr. was preceded in death by his
5parents; his wife, Marion; his sister, Gloria Schrilla; and his
6brother, Wilbur "Bill" Pflug; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Elmer Pflug, Jr. is survived by his 4 children,
8Kathleen (Glenn "Joe") Ponitz, Elmer "Bud" III (Julie) Pflug,
9Cindy Pflug, and Ruth (Chuck) Mullen; his 8 grandchildren,
10Joseph (Sarah) and Adam (Carrie) Ponitz, David (Ashley),
11Stephen, Daniel, and Nathan Pflug, and Michael and Timothy
12Mullen; his 6 great-grandchildren, Sydney and Ayden Ponitz,
13Felicity and Max Ponitz, and Evie and Sarah Pflug; his cousin,
14Eugene "Gene" Prell; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be
15it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Elmer F. "Bud" Pflug, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences
19to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
20it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Elmer Pflug, Jr. as an expression of
