SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lulu Belle "Lu" Stewart, formerly of
4Champaign, who passed away on June 7, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lu Stewart was born in Chicago on November 27,
61929 to Glenn and Florence (nee Vosburg) Nash; she graduated
7from Horace Mann High School in 1948 and married Tommy Stewart
8on June 4, 1949; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lu Stewart was always supportive of her husband's
10coaching career and they eventually settled in Champaign, where
11Tommy began a 30-year career as the head football coach of
12Champaign (later Central) High School; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lu Stewart was proud of her place in the group
14that became to be known simply as the "coaches' wives"; this
15group of "JoAnne", "Pat", "Karen", "Norma", "Carolyn", "Ann",
16and "Roxie" became a posse of "BFF's" before there was such a
17thing as social media; she had other long-lasting friendships
18in Champaign throughout the years with Neda Sparks, Jen Shelby,
19Jane Green, Betty Davis, Jim and JoAnn Walters, Jerry and Diane
20Butler, Norma and Ron Mueller, Glen and Sue Kitson, and
21countless others; and

1    WHEREAS, Lu Stewart was preceded in death by her husband,
2Tommy; her father and mother; her brother, Glenn; and a baby
3son; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Lu Stewart was the beloved wife of Tommy Stewart;
5the loving mother of Thomas C. Stewart, Jr. and Susan E.
6Stewart; the dear grandmother of Jacqueline Eve, Thomas Andrew,
7and Casey and Thomas Cody; the great-grandmother of Nathan,
8Madelyn, Ethan, Schuyler, and Andrew; and the loving sister of
9Glenn Lewis Nash; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Lulu Belle "Lu" Stewart, and extend our sincere condolences to
13her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Lu Stewart as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
