SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Marilyn J. Long of Joliet, who passed
4away on June 18, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marilyn Long was born in Joliet on August 26, 1923
6to William P. and Mary E. (nee Callaghan) Burt; she was a
7graduate of St. Francis Academy and member of the Phi Chi Omega
8Sorority; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Marilyn Long worked for several years at the main
10post office in downtown Joliet until she married and had
11children; after raising her 4 children, she returned to work as
12office manager for her husband's Incentive Marketing company;
13she also did special accounting projects for their Budweiser
14distributorship, Eagle Brands; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Marilyn Long was a founding parishioner of the
16Church of St. Jude and a founding officer of its Altar and
17Rosary Society; she and her husband traveled extensively
18throughout the United States and Europe with their children and
19grandchildren; she loved to spend the winters at their Venice,
20Florida home; she was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and
21her favorite destination was Ireland, which she visited many
22times; she was an avid reader and enjoyed the theater, movies,

1horse racing, and shopping, especially for gifts for family and
2friends; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Marilyn Long was the beloved wife of 67 years of
4Robert A. Long; the devoted mother of Kerry Long (Tom Manaher),
5Connie (Richard) Myers, Barrett (Jeanne) Long, and Erin (Matt)
6Springman; the adoring and indulgent grandmother of Bridget
7(Vince) Mullins, Kevin Springman, Mary Kate Springman, and
8Maggie Long; the loving great-grandmother of Ava Mary Mullins,
9whom she holds in her arms in heaven; the fond sister of Joan
10(late Robert) Nielsen; the sister-in-law of Beverly (late
11Thomas) Feehan; and a dear aunt, great-aunt, and cousin; in
12addition, she was preceded in death by her parents; her
13brother, William (Phyllis); and her brothers-in-law and
14sisters-in-law, Loretta (James) Sullivan, Tom (Martha), John
15(Alice), Barrett (Catherine), Marge, Norman (Pauline), and Don
16Long; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Marilyn J. Long, and extend our sincere condolences to her
20family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
21further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23presented to the family of Marilyn Long as an expression of our
