| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Sadie Frances Picarda, who passed away on |
| 4 | | June 25, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Sadie Picarda was born on January 24, 1929 to |
| 6 | | Gonzie
and Lola Coleman; she attended Coleman Elementary School |
| 7 | | and Dunbar Vocational High School,
where she majored in |
| 8 | | dressmaking; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Sadie Picarda used her vocational dressmaking |
| 10 | | skills throughout her extensive working
career with Wilson |
| 11 | | Garments; during her time there, she served as President of
her |
| 12 | | Local International Ladies Garment Workers Union; she advanced
|
| 13 | | to become Head Sample Dressmaker, retiring in 1992; after |
| 14 | | retirement, she remained active and continued in her chosen |
| 15 | | profession, teaching dressmaking in her home and making |
| 16 | | countless garments for herself and for proms, weddings, fashion |
| 17 | | shows, and special occasions; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Sadie Picarda enjoyed spending time with her - |
| 19 | | family and friends; she loved exploring new places and |
| 20 | | attending cultural and
art events; she traveled to Europe, the |
| 21 | | Caribbean, and various locations
throughout the United States; |
| 22 | | she was a long-time member of the Chicago
