SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dean R. Grimm of Morton, who passed away on June 17, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Dean Grimm was born in Peoria on November 23, 1943 to William, Jr. and Eula (nee Yoder) Grimm; he graduated from Morton High School and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale; he served with the United States Army Reserve during the Vietnam War and married Sara F. (nee Parker) Haferkamp on January 15, 1971 in Morton; and

WHEREAS, Dean Grimm began working in the family business, Grimm TV & Appliance; he eventually purchased the business from his father and owned, operated, and managed stores in Morton, Washington, Bloomington, and Peoria; during those years in business, he traveled around the world with General Electric, RCA, Zenith, Fisher-Paykel, and other companies; he joined the Marta Buying Group of US Appliance Dealers, eventually becoming Vice-President of the board and serving on it until his retirement from the Grimm TV & Appliance, which existed for 78 years; he retired in 2000 at the age of 56 and began a career in realty and property development; and

WHEREAS, Dean Grimm served on the Morton Planning Commission; he was active in the Rotary Club for years and also the Morton Chamber of Commerce, serving 3 terms as chamber President; he was elected to the Tazewell County Board in 1996, serving for 19 years; and

WHEREAS, Dean Grimm was preceded in death by his parents, and his 2 brothers, Jack and Ronald; and

WHEREAS, Dean Grimm is survived by his wife, Sara; his children, Cristi (Doug) Schaffnit, Cesli (Gino) Vaccaro, and William Derek (Jenna) Grimm; his 8 grandchildren, Katie (Paul) Velting, Lindsay Mathers, Kelly Schaffnit, Ryan Schaffnit, Isaiah Vaccaro, Rachel Vaccaro, Myah Grimm, and Zach Grimm; and his sister, Diane Grimm; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dean R. Grimm, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dean Grimm as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
