SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James Francis Thornton of Bloomington,
4who passed away on July 11, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Thornton was born in Lima, Peru on October
623, 1942 to Frank B. and S. Eleanor (nee McComiskey) Thornton;
7he was raised in Myrtle, Ontario and graduated from Whitby High
8School in 1960; he married Frankie in Fredericton, New
9Brunswick on October 17, 1964 and graduated from the University
10of New Brunswick in 1967 as an electrical engineer; and
 
11    WHEREAS, James Thornton was hired by Firestone out of
12college as an engineer in Hopewell, Virginia; he worked for
13Firestone, America OTR, and then Bridgestone, eventually
14moving to Bloomington in 1983, where he finished out his
15working career as director of manufacturing for Bridgestone;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, James Thornton was an athlete of several sports
18(wrestling, hockey, swimming, diving, golf), a wicked pool
19player, a brilliant card player, and harbored a complete
20command (which he loved to share) of the finest scotches in the
21world; and

1    WHEREAS, James Thornton was preceded in death by his
2parents; and
 
3    WHEREAS, James Thornton is survived by his wife of 50
4years, Frankie; his sisters, Susan (Jerry Foreman) and Mary
5(Posa) Shultz; his brother, Peter Thornton; his 2 daughters,
6Dr. Sherri (Dr. Matthew Fraker) Thornton and Jami Thornton; his
73 grandchildren, Dixon and Hayden Fraker and Parker Thornton;
8his nephews, Mike Foreman, Jim Foreman, and Jonathan Thornton;
9and his niece, Cathy Foreman; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12James Francis Thornton, and extend our sincere condolences to
13his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of James Thornton as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
