| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Thomas Daniel "V" Vehring, who passed |
| 4 | | away on June 13, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Vehring was born in Bemidji, Minnesota on |
| 6 | | April 30, 1941; he spent his formative years in Virginia, |
| 7 | | Minnesota, where he developed his zest for golf by sneaking |
| 8 | | over the wall surrounding the Virginia Municipal Golf Course |
| 9 | | across the street from his house; once caught by the golf pro, |
| 10 | | he was given a $5 season pass in return for a promise to play |
| 11 | | the 18 holes in order and to quit sneaking over the wall; by |
| 12 | | the time he graduated from Virginia High School, he was a |
| 13 | | formidable amateur and had played in many tournaments; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Vehring graduated from Minnesota State |
| 15 | | University at Mankato in 1964 and headed for Chicago and a |
| 16 | | lifetime built around golf; he worked as a golf professional at |
| 17 | | Olympia Fields Country Club and in sales for both the Arnold |
| 18 | | Palmer Golf and the Ben Hogan Golf Companies; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, In the early 1980s, Thomas Vehring went to McHenry |
| 20 | | to help promote the metalwood; this collaboration with fellow |
| 21 | | salesman, Gary Adams, eventually grew into TaylorMade Golf; |
| 22 | | ever ready with "Tips from Tom", he frequently gave advice |
