SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Thomas Daniel "V" Vehring, who passed
4away on June 13, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Thomas Vehring was born in Bemidji, Minnesota on
6April 30, 1941; he spent his formative years in Virginia,
7Minnesota, where he developed his zest for golf by sneaking
8over the wall surrounding the Virginia Municipal Golf Course
9across the street from his house; once caught by the golf pro,
10he was given a $5 season pass in return for a promise to play
11the 18 holes in order and to quit sneaking over the wall; by
12the time he graduated from Virginia High School, he was a
13formidable amateur and had played in many tournaments; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Thomas Vehring graduated from Minnesota State
15University at Mankato in 1964 and headed for Chicago and a
16lifetime built around golf; he worked as a golf professional at
17Olympia Fields Country Club and in sales for both the Arnold
18Palmer Golf and the Ben Hogan Golf Companies; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In the early 1980s, Thomas Vehring went to McHenry
20to help promote the metalwood; this collaboration with fellow
21salesman, Gary Adams, eventually grew into TaylorMade Golf;
22ever ready with "Tips from Tom", he frequently gave advice

1peppered with phrases like "feather cuts" and "what-a-pities";
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Thomas Vehring was preceded in death by his
4grandson, Nicholas Vehring, and his sisters, Joanne Nigro and
5Kathryn Doe; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Thomas Vehring is survived by his wife of 50
7years, Kathleen (Kinn); his sons, Ross (Rita) Vehring and
8Christopher (Denise) Vehring; his daughter, Tracy (Scott)
9Botten; his grandchildren, Michael Vehring, Veronica and
10Alexander Vehring, and Lilya and Ava Botten; and his siblings,
11Mary Sue (David) Tarkowski and Jon (Kristen) Vehring;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Thomas Daniel "V" Vehring, and extend our sincere condolences
16to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
17it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Thomas Vehring as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
