SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Elliott "Buck" Wheeland, who passed away on July 5, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Elliott Wheeland was born in Geneva on August 6, 1926 to Clara and Harry Wheeland and grew up in West Chicago; he served in the United States Navy during World War II and married Jeanne Kral on August 9, 1952; he received a degree in education at Northern Illinois Teachers College and continued his education at Northern Illinois University, earning a master's degree; and

WHEREAS, Elliott Wheeland started his teaching career in 1950 at McHenry High School; he transferred to Crystal Lake High School in 1956 and later taught at Cary Grove High School and Crystal Lake South, retiring in 1985; he loved teaching and peppered his lessons with wit and wisdom; he also coached wrestling and football; and

WHEREAS, Elliott Wheeland was a passionate reader and in retirement volunteered at the Crystal Lake Library; he also volunteered for 15 years at the Sage Cancer Center at Centegra Hospital in McHenry; he enjoyed fishing all his life and was also a life-long Chicago Cubs fan; and

WHEREAS, Elliott Wheeland was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Elliott Wheeland is survived by his wife, Jeanne; his daughters, Linda (companion Eric Schlaf), Kathy (Jim) Lutz, Nancy (Ron) Partch, and Laura; his granddaughters, Carly (Ryan) Anderson, Melissa Lutz, and Lauren Partch; his brother, Richard; and his sister, Lois Hanrahan; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Elliott "Buck" Wheeland, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Elliott Wheeland as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
