| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of William H. "Bill" Seesland of Moline, who |
| 4 | | passed away on June 5, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bill Seesland was born at Camp Logan in Houston, |
| 6 | | Texas on November 18, 1917 to Eileen (nee O'Reilly) and Glen J. |
| 7 | | Seesland, while his father, an officer in the 132nd Illinois |
| 8 | | Infantry, was serving under General Pershing who was attempting |
| 9 | | to capture Pancho Villa; he grew up in several locations, |
| 10 | | living with relatives in Chicago; Detroit, Michigan; Sycamore; |
| 11 | | and Juda, Wisconsin; he attended Northwestern University in |
| 12 | | Evanston and Centre College in Danville, Kentucky; he married |
| 13 | | Alberta "Billie" in 1939; in October of 1942, he enlisted in |
| 14 | | the Aviation Cadet Program and was called to active duty in |
| 15 | | January of 1943; he went overseas in January of 1945, joining |
| 16 | | the 487th Squadron of the 352nd Fighter Group at Chievres, |
| 17 | | Belgium; he was stationed at a base in Bodney, England, flying |
| 18 | | the P-51 Mustang and earning the rank of Captain; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Bill Seesland and his wife moved to Moline in |
| 20 | | 1946; he worked for John Deere & Co., retiring in 1980; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Bill Seesland and his wife enjoyed retirement, |
| 22 | | visiting Alaska, the Panama Canal, Europe, and Africa; he was |
