| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Delores Shavers; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Delores Shavers was born on May 5, 1948 in |
| 5 | | Chicago; her parents were Ralph and Luevenia Shavers; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Delores Shavers confessed her life to Christ and |
| 7 | | was baptized at an early age; she was a devoted member of the |
| 8 | | United Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor |
| 9 | | Wilson Daniels for over 20 years; she served as an usher and |
| 10 | | most recently served on the Hospitality Board at the church; |
| 11 | | and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Delores Shavers completed her elementary |
| 13 | | education at Julius Hayes Hess and graduated from John Marshall |
| 14 | | High School; she subsequently attended Richard Wright College; |
| 15 | | and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Delores Shavers worked and retired from the |
| 17 | | Chicago Board of Education after 35 years of dedicated service |
| 18 | | working with special needs children; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Delores Shavers was a committed member of her |
| 20 | | community and took pride in assisting with organizing the |
|

| 1 | | annual block club event; she also enjoyed traveling, |
| 2 | | socializing with friends, bid whist, and spending time with her |
| 3 | | family, particularly her grandchildren; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Delores Shavers was a wonderful person who could |
| 5 | | always be counted on to give unconditional love and support to |
| 6 | | her family, friends, and everyone she met; she was |
| 7 | | affectionately loved and known as Auntie Dee Dee by Illinois |
| 8 | | State Senator Kimberly Lightford and her siblings, Carmelita, |
| 9 | | Janon, and Melvin, Jr.; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Delores Shavers also served as a mentor to Senator |
| 11 | | Lightford, having demonstrated to her the meaning of true |
| 12 | | sisterhood and friendship over the course of her life; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Delores Shavers was preceded in death by her |
| 14 | | parents and 8 siblings, Beatrice, Katie May, Mozell, Katie Lee, |
| 15 | | Velma, Lamont, Johnny, and Ralph, Jr.; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Delores Shavers is survived by her children, |
| 17 | | Derrick (Nicole) and Schunita (Andre); 5 grandchildren, |
| 18 | | Derrick, Jr, Demond, Deshaun, Skylar, and Shianne; a sister, |
| 19 | | Elnora (James) Haralson; 2 brothers, Vernon (Alexandria) and |
| 20 | | Mark (Yvonne); 2 brothers-in-law, Arthur Lindsey and Robert |
| 21 | | Parker; her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and 3 |
| 22 | | special life-long friends, Linda Augustus (Ramey), Barbara |

| 1 | | Lightford (Babs), and Rosemary Malone (Gypsy); and
|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Senate recognize that mere |
| 3 | | words prove inadequate to ease the pain experienced by the |
| 4 | | family and friends of Delores Shavers over her loss; however, |
| 5 | | we have come together as a body to share our profound sense of |
| 6 | | grief and our most sincere condolences over the loss of this |
| 7 | | special woman and her legacy of great love and wisdom; |
| 8 | | therefore, be it

| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
| 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her |
| 11 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Delores Shavers; and |
| 12 | | be it further
|
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 14 | | presented to the family of Delores Shavers as an expression of |
| 15 | | our sympathy.
