| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Janice Sylvia Fienberg Rothbaum of |
| 4 | | Urbana, who passed away on July 21, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Janice Rothbaum was born in Bennington, Vermont on |
| 6 | | August 9, 1924 to Harry and Anna Fienberg; she graduated from |
| 7 | | Bennington High School in 1942 as valedictorian of the senior |
| 8 | | class; she received a degree in radio journalism from Syracuse |
| 9 | | University and pursued a career in radio at stations in Boston, |
| 10 | | Massachusetts and upstate New York; she married Melvin Rothbaum |
| 11 | | in 1948; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Janice Rothbaum and her family lived in Europe for |
| 13 | | a year and then in Los Angeles, California for 6 years, finally |
| 14 | | settling in Champaign-Urbana in 1962; when her children reached |
| 15 | | their teens, she went back to school and earned a master's |
| 16 | | degree in social work from the University of Illinois; she |
| 17 | | worked at the Adler Mental Health Center with emotionally |
| 18 | | disturbed and developmentally disabled children, eventually |
| 19 | | becoming Director of Social Work and Community Services for a |
| 20 | | 16-county area; she also worked for the Urbana public schools |
| 21 | | and in private practice; in 1982, she was voted Social Worker |
| 22 | | of the Year for her district; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Upon retirement, Janice Rothbaum and her husband |
| 2 | | embarked on a series of travel adventures around the world, |
| 3 | | exploring 5 continents; she also pursued a lifelong dream to be |
| 4 | | on the stage, performing in at least 40 roles at the Station |
| 5 | | Theatre, Parkland College, the Krannert Center, and various |
| 6 | | other venues; the conclusion to her acting career was the lead |
| 7 | | role in the play "4,000 Miles" at the Station Theatre; the |
| 8 | | closing performance coincided with her 90th birthday, which the |
| 9 | | sold-out theater then celebrated; she enjoyed good food and |
| 10 | | entertaining and was a gourmet cook; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Janice Rothbaum was preceded in death by her 2 |
| 12 | | brothers, George and Bernard; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Janice Rothbaum is survived by her husband of 67 |
| 14 | | years, Melvin; her 2 children, Susan and Jeremy; and her 2 |
| 15 | | grandchildren, Nicholas and Liberty; therefore, be it
|
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
| 17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 18 | | Janice Sylvia Fienberg Rothbaum, and extend our sincere |
| 19 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
| 20 | | her; and be it further
|
| 21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 | | presented to the family of Janice Rothbaum as an expression of |
