| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Donald R. Gronewold of Washington, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on August 25, 2015; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold was born on August 7, 1932 in | ||||||
| 6 | Trivoli; his parents were Berne and Louise (nee Anderson) | ||||||
| 7 | Gronewold; he married Shirley Scroggins on December 27, 1959 in | ||||||
| 8 | Washington; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold was a graduate of Farmington | ||||||
| 10 | Community High School and the University of Illinois College of | ||||||
| 11 | Pharmacy at Chicago; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold served his country as a member of | ||||||
| 13 | the United States Army; after his stint in the Army, he moved | ||||||
| 14 | to Washington, where he owned and operated Don's Pharmacy on | ||||||
| 15 | the Square for 42 years; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold was a member of the Washington | ||||||
| 17 | Chamber of Commerce, the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, | ||||||
| 18 | the Central Illinois Pharmacist's Association, where he served | ||||||
| 19 | as president, the National Community Pharmacists Association, | ||||||
| 20 | the Illinois Pharmacist's Association, where he served as | ||||||
| 21 | president, and the American Pharmacist's Association; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold was the 1970 recipient of the | ||||||
| 2 | Bowl of Hygeia Award, which recognizes pharmacists who possess | ||||||
| 3 | outstanding records of civic leadership in their communities; | ||||||
| 4 | and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold served as the Mayor of Washington | ||||||
| 6 | for 3 terms from 1989 to 2001; he was also active in the | ||||||
| 7 | Tazewell County Republican Committee and for many years served | ||||||
| 8 | as the organization's treasurer; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold was a member of Crossroads United | ||||||
| 10 | Methodist Church; he was also a 56-year member of the | ||||||
| 11 | Washington Rotary Club, where he served as president and was a | ||||||
| 12 | Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary International Foundation; | ||||||
| 13 | and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold enjoyed sports and was an avid | ||||||
| 15 | Chicago Cubs and Bears fan; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold was preceded in death by a | ||||||
| 17 | brother, Harold; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold is survived by his wife, Shirley; | ||||||
| 19 | a son, Kevin Gronewold; and 2 sisters, Donna Mae (George) | ||||||
| 20 | Walker and Mary Jane (David) Severt; therefore, be it
| ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
| 3 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Donald R. Gronewold; | ||||||
| 4 | and be it further
| ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 6 | presented to the family of Donald Gronewold as an expression of | ||||||
| 7 | our sympathy.
