SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of B. Douglas Kettering of Rushville, who
4passed away on August 27, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Douglas Kettering was born in Schuyler County on
6July 1, 1932 to J. Boyd and M. Frances (nee Armstrong)
7Kettering; he graduated from Rushville High School and served
8in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955 on the carriers USS
9Midway and USS Wasp; he married Madelyn Rose "Lynn" Schneider
10on October 16, 1954 in the Bronx, New York; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Douglas Kettering worked at the U.S. Navy Yard in
12Portsmouth, Virginia from 1955 to 1956; he then returned to his
13family farm, where he would farm for 47 years, retiring in
142003; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Douglas Kettering was a lifetime member of the
16First United Methodist Church in Rushville, a member of the
17Rushville Flying Club for over 40 years, a member of the
18Rushville Lions Club, and a past member of the Rushville Rotary
19Club; he served one term as the Bainbridge Township Supervisor,
20as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Orr Research Farm in Perry, as
21President of the Schuyler County Pork Producers, and as
22Chairman of the Schuyler County Soil and Water District during

1the building of the Schuy-Rush Lake and Water Shed; he was also
2the Chairman of the Board of the Deb & Di's Coffee Club and
3Reporter of the Hardee's Coffee Club; he was named the 2015
4Corn Fest Farmer of the Year; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Douglas Kettering was preceded in death by his
6parents, and his son-in-law, Vince Heinz; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Douglas Kettering is survived by his wife,
8Madelyn; his 3 children, Pamela Diane Tavernier and husband,
9John, Kerry Kevin Kettering and wife, Joyce, and Lisa Dawn
10Parks and husband, Frank; his 6 grandchildren, Brittany
11Heinz-Amborn and husband, Tyler, Jonathon Douglas Reynolds,
12Sierra Jockisch, Kristy Jo LeBegue, Johanna Bigley and husband,
13Steve, and Brandon LeBegue; his great-grandchildren; his one
14brother, Sidney Kettering and wife, Susie; his 2 sisters, Peggy
15Meyer and husband, Wilbur, and Connie Markley and husband,
16Robert; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19B. Douglas Kettering, and extend our sincere condolences to his
20family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
