| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Clara Kathryn Otto of Danvers, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on July 29, 2015; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Clara Otto was born on August 6, 1924 in rural | ||||||
| 6 | Danvers; her parents were Robert Quillian "Quilly" and Mamie | ||||||
| 7 | Coiner Altare Bostic; she married Loren Otto on October 12, | ||||||
| 8 | 1944 at the Carlock Mennonite Church parsonage; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Clara Otto was a 1942 graduate of Danvers High | ||||||
| 10 | School; she began working at State Farm in the life department | ||||||
| 11 | on December 7, 1942; she was later employed as a defense worker | ||||||
| 12 | at Eureka Williams; after marrying, she joined her husband in | ||||||
| 13 | Alexandria, Louisiana, where she passed the federal civil | ||||||
| 14 | service exam and became a switchboard operator on the military | ||||||
| 15 | base where he was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps and | ||||||
| 16 | taught engineering and gunnery; after the war, she farmed with | ||||||
| 17 | her husband in Lexington and then in Danvers, where they lived | ||||||
| 18 | on a centennial farm; in 1962, she began working at Country | ||||||
| 19 | Companies Insurance, where she retired after over 17 years of | ||||||
| 20 | service in May of 1980; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Clara Otto was very active in the Danvers-Carlock | ||||||
| 22 | community; she was a long-time member of the Carlock Mennonite | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | Church, the Dry Grove Home Extension, the Danvers PTA, and the | ||||||
| 2 | Danvers Alumni Association; she and her husband were active in | ||||||
| 3 | the Bloomington Elks Lodge for many years; an accomplished | ||||||
| 4 | bowler, she enjoyed being in various local leagues and was a | ||||||
| 5 | member of the Country Companies' team that won a national | ||||||
| 6 | bowling championship in the 1969 National Industrial | ||||||
| 7 | Recreation Association tournament at Crawfordsville, Indiana; | ||||||
| 8 | she was also passionate about the game of golf and was a former | ||||||
| 9 | member of the El Paso Golf Club at Kappa; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Following her retirement, Clara Otto and several | ||||||
| 11 | of her friends formed a group known as The Bag Ladies who | ||||||
| 12 | played weekly at Hazy Hills Golf Course and other area golfing | ||||||
| 13 | venues; her enthusiasm for sports included any athletic | ||||||
| 14 | activity in which her grandchildren were involved as well as | ||||||
| 15 | being an avid fan of both NASCAR and the New York Yankees; she | ||||||
| 16 | believed there was nothing more important than spending time | ||||||
| 17 | with her family and friends; she also enjoyed traveling and | ||||||
| 18 | spending time in her tree and flower-filled yard; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Clara Otto was preceded in death by her husband, | ||||||
| 20 | Loren; her parents; her sister, Gladys Troxel; and her brother, | ||||||
| 21 | Jim Bostic; and | ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Clara Otto is survived by her sons, Gregory Loren | ||||||
| 23 | (Karen) Otto and Stanley Alan Otto; 2 grandchildren, Ryan Loren | ||||||

| 1 | (Laura) Otto and Blake (Danielle) Otto; her | ||||||
| 2 | great-grandchildren, Nathanael, Natalie, Ava, Luke, Emmerson, | ||||||
| 3 | and Ethan Otto; her sister, Opal Stahly; and her many nieces | ||||||
| 4 | and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 6 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her | ||||||
| 7 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Clara Kathryn Otto; | ||||||
| 8 | and be it further
| ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 10 | presented to the family of Clara Otto as an expression of our | ||||||
| 11 | sympathy.
