| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Robert Alexander "Pretty Bob" Pendergrass |
| 4 | | of Rock Island, who passed away on September 1, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Pendergrass was born in Flint, Michigan on |
| 6 | | February 18, 1924 to Henry and Magnolia (nee Vincent) |
| 7 | | Pendergrass; he was raised in Statham, Georgia; he served in |
| 8 | | the United States Air Force during World War II and settled in |
| 9 | | Rock Island in 1952; he married Lola M. Bates in 1962; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Robert Pendergrass retired from Brammer's |
| 11 | | Manufacturing in Davenport, Iowa in 1986; he also worked as a |
| 12 | | bartender at several golf course country clubs in Iowa and |
| 13 | | Illinois; he worked as the manager of the Camel's Nest |
| 14 | | (Shrine's Temple); and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Robert Pendergrass married Dianna Cavitt on |
| 16 | | November 8, 1994 after the passing of his first wife; they were |
| 17 | | the owners and operators of the Last Chance Lounge in Rock |
| 18 | | Island until March 2014; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Robert Pendergrass was a member of King Solomon |
| 20 | | Lodge No. 20, Tri-City Consistory No. 82, and the Ancient |
| 21 | | Egyptian Arabic Order Noble Mystic Shrine of North and South |
|

| 1 | | America and Its Jurisdictions, Inc., Masqat No. 141, where he |
| 2 | | served as Illustrious Potentate; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Robert Pendergrass was always willing to lend a |
| 4 | | helping hand; he loved golfing, poker, fancy cars, and fine |
| 5 | | clothes; he walked 5 miles every morning at Sunset Park; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Robert Pendergrass was preceded in death by is |
| 7 | | first wife, Lola; his parents; and his sister, Emma Long; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Robert Pendergrass is survived by his wife, |
| 9 | | Dianna; his daughter, Sally Houston; his granddaughter, Erica |
| 10 | | Houston; his nephews, Donnie (Melinda) Long, Tim (JoAnn) Long, |
| 11 | | and Charles (Linda) Long; his aunt, Ollie (Bryant) Smith; his |
| 12 | | great-nephews; his great-nieces; numerous cousins; and his |
| 13 | | extended family, Jackson, Daniels, Stegall, Tatum, and |
| 14 | | Williams; and many friends; therefore, be it
|
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
| 16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 17 | | Robert Alexander "Pretty Bob" Pendergrass, and extend our |
| 18 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
| 19 | | and loved him; and be it further

| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 21 | | presented to the family of Robert Pendergrass as an expression |
