SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Patricia M. "Pat" Holden of Hoffman
4Estates, who passed away on June 29, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Pat Holden was born in Billings, Montana on
6October 6, 1957 to Martha and Edward Holden; she graduated from
7Billings High School and went on to receive a bachelor's degree
8in political science and labor studies from Oregon State
9University; she served as the very first intern lobbyist at the
10Oregon State Legislature; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Pat Holden joined Bank of America in 2001 and was
12a senior vice-president, serving in state and local government
13relations; she was responsible for the strategy to manage the
14bank's public policy area in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan,
15Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin; she worked with elected
16officials across the Midwest and especially in her beloved City
17of Chicago; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Prior to joining Bank of America, Pat Holden was
19Vice-President of State Affairs for the American Insurance
20Association (AIA), where she was the Midwest lobbyist for 9
21years, based in Chicago; in 1986, she became Philip Morris'
22Director of Government Affairs for the Midwest before joining

1the AIA; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Pat Holden was a 4-year member of the board of
3directors of the State Government Affairs Council, a
4professional lobbyist organization whose members are corporate
5governmental affairs staff with multi-state responsibilities;
6she was also President of the Industry Advisory Council of the
7National Conference of Insurance Legislators after serving
8several terms on the board of directors; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Pat Holden's civic and community activities were
10varied throughout her career, including her election as a
11Commissioner of the Hoffman Estates Park District and serving
12on numerous boards and commissions; she was instrumental in
13engaging the bank with After School Matters, a non-profit
14organization founded in 1991 by former Chicago First Lady
15Maggie Daley that offers Chicago high school teens innovative
16out-of-school opportunities to explore and develop their
17talents in the arts, communications, science, sports, and
18technology, while gaining critical skills for work, college,
19and beyond; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Pat Holden was preceded in death by her parents;
21and
 
22    WHEREAS, Pat Holden is survived by her husband of nearly 20

1years, Charley Burhan; her 3 sisters; and her 7 nieces and
2nephews; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Patricia M. "Pat" Holden, and extend our sincere condolences to
6her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Pat Holden as an expression of our
10deepest sympathy.
