| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Hearl C. Bishop of Canton, who passed |
| 4 | | away on September 26, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Hearl Bishop was born on December 24, 1920 in |
| 6 | | Karnak; he attended Southern Illinois University, where he |
| 7 | | received his bachelor's degree and his master's degree in |
| 8 | | education; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Hearl Bishop served as an agriculture teacher at |
| 10 | | Eldorado High School from 1946 to 1961; he advanced his career |
| 11 | | into education administration when he served as Assistant |
| 12 | | Principal at Ridgeway High School in Ridgeway for 2 years; he |
| 13 | | later moved his family north and continued in the |
| 14 | | administration field as principal of Mahomet-Seymour High |
| 15 | | School in Mahomet from 1963 to 1966; while working in the |
| 16 | | school district, he worked on his doctorate in business |
| 17 | | administration at the University of Illinois; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1966, Hearl Bishop's career brought him to |
| 19 | | Canton when he was hired as the dean of Canton Community |
| 20 | | College; while at Canton Community College, he and many |
| 21 | | supporters worked tirelessly for 2 years to realize a |
| 22 | | successful referendum to see the college become a Class I |

| 1 | | Junior College in 1968; the college would later become known as |
| 2 | | Spoon River College, with the college's new campus |
| 3 | | groundbreaking beginning in 1972; he was selected to be the |
| 4 | | first president of Spoon River College, continuing his work |
| 5 | | there until his retirement in 1978; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Hearl Bishop enjoyed golfing with his friends and |
| 7 | | his sons, fishing, and playing billiards; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Hearl Bishop was preceded in death by his wife, |
| 9 | | Helen Ilene (nee Dickey) Bishop; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Hearl Bishop is survived by his sons, Dan (Connie |
| 11 | | Huttes) Bishop and Jack (Karla Hatcher) Bishop; his daughter, |
| 12 | | Beth (Philip) Chapman; his grandchildren, Amy Deakin, Emily |
| 13 | | Deakin (Faron) Harmony, Jennifer Bishop (Justin Hood), Katie |
| 14 | | Bishop, Matt (Amy Johns) Chapman, and Nikki Chapman; his |
| 15 | | great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Deakin, Dustin, Jadlyn, Victoria, |
| 16 | | and Faron Harmony, Hunter Hood, and Parker and Maggie Chapman; |
| 17 | | his brothers, Bill and Bruce Bishop; and his sister, Louise |
| 18 | | (Bishop) Eastwood; therefore, be it

| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
| 20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his |
| 21 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Hearl C. Bishop; and |
| 22 | | be it further
