SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ordwin A. "Rocky" Schoenrock of
4Springfield, who passed away on September 2, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ordwin Schoenrock was born in Wilton Township,
6Minnesota on May 30, 1922 to Otto and Magdalena Schoenrock; he
7served in the United States Navy as a sonarman on the Destroyer
8Escort USS Inch during World War II; he also served as an
9interpreter for German sailors captured after the sinking of
10the U490 German submarine in the North Atlantic in June of
111944; he married Evelyn Brewer on April 10, 1954; and
 
12    WHEREAS, After the war, Ordwin Schoenrock attended the
13American Academy of Art School in Chicago; he then moved to
14Springfield to work as display advertising director for the
15S.A. Barker Co. and as sign designer for the Sheehan Sign
16Company; in 1959, he was employed by the State Journal-Register
17as an advertising artist; and
 
18    WHEREAS, In 1969, Ordwin Schoenrock began a series of local
19and area church paintings that were published on Christmas Day
20each year for over 20 years; over 20 church paintings are on
21display at the State Journal-Register; and

1    WHEREAS, Ordwin Schoenrock was preceded in death by his
2wife, Evelyn, and his granddaughter, Tayla Skaggs-Cook; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Ordwin Schoenrock is survived by his daughters,
4Susan (Robert) Braasch, Penny (Daniel) Skaggs, and Terri Ann
5(Paul) Zell; his 6 grandchildren, Eleanor and Madeline Braasch
6and Daniel, Nick, Kris, and Nathan Skaggs; his 12
7great-grandchildren; and his sister, Verla (John) Conway;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Ordwin A. "Rocky" Schoenrock, and extend our sincere
12condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13him; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Ordwin Schoenrock as an expression
16of our deepest sympathy.
