SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James Allen Cummings of Peoria, who
4passed away on September 18, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Cummings was born in LaSalle-Peru on April
622, 1931 to Florence Herberger-Lindner; he married Gail Mary
7Michael on September 6, 1952 at St. Mark's Catholic Church in
8Peoria; he received his Bachelor of Science in Marketing and
9Management and his Juris Doctorate from the University of
10Illinois; and
 
11    WHEREAS, James Cummings worked as an attorney; and
 
12    WHEREAS, James Cummings served on the Peoria Park District
13board for over 40 years; he was an active member and past
14President of the Peoria Republican Party and head of the Peoria
15Diocese Council of Catholic Men; he was also a member of the
16Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council #4333, past President of
17the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and past President of the
18Downtown Kiwanis Club; he was head of the U of I Newman Club,
19head of the U of I Ethic Committee, and founder of the Lincoln
20Statue Committee and the Lincoln Award Committee; and
 
21    WHEREAS, James Cummings was an excellent bridge player; he

1enjoyed golfing, fishing, antiquing, and auctions; he will be
2remembered for his love of dogs, enjoying long Sunday drives,
3and being an Abraham Lincoln expert; and
 
4    WHEREAS, James Cummings was preceded in death by his
5parents; his stepfather, Walt Lindner; his grandchild, Patrick
6Vaughn; and his great-grandchild, Kellen Berkemeier; and
 
7    WHEREAS, James Cummings is survived by his wife, Gail; his
88 children, Mary (Phillip) Berkemeier, Kate (Gerald) Wren,
9Angie (Phillip) Owens, Mike (Marguerite) Cummings, Teresa
10(Mike) Green, Mark (Kelly), Julie (David) Vaughn, and Kelly
11Cummings; his 26 grandchildren; and his 27
12great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15James Allen Cummings, and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of James Cummings as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
