SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Margaret Dyson of Champaign, who passed
4away on August 19, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Margaret Dyson was born in 1918 in South Dakota;
6she was valedictorian of her Madison High School class and
7married John Dyson in 1941; she received her Ph.D. in Education
8from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1977;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Margaret Dyson worked for the law firm of Martens
11and Goldsmith in Pierre, South Dakota and the South Dakota
12State Department of School and Public Lands; during World War
13II, while her husband was an officer in the Army, she worked
14for the Office of Price Administration in Washington, D.C. and
15the engineering firm of Pate and Hern in Detroit, Michigan; for
1630 years, starting in 1964, she was employed as a learning
17disabilities teacher for the Champaign Community Unit 4
18schools; she taught at Washington, South Side, Jefferson, and
19other Champaign schools; after retirement, she volunteered as a
20reading coach at Carrie Busey School; from 1975 to 1977, she
21served as the Director of a Title III and Title IV-C education
22project to teach reading by correspondence to elementary school
23children; she was the founder and co-director of "Teacher in a

1Mailbox"; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Margaret Dyson was a member of Mortarboard, Phi
3Delta Kappa, and Kappa Delta Pi honorary fraternities; since
41953, she and her husband were members of Wesley United
5Methodist Church of Champaign; they enjoyed spending Christmas
6with their family in Cedar Key and were frequently found
7dancing with their friends at the University Club, the Elks,
8the American Legion, and the Regency Ballroom; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Margaret Dyson was preceded in death by her
10husband, John; her parents; and her sister, Sallie McMillan;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Margaret Dyson is survived by her 2 sons, John
13Patrick Dyson and Stephen Dyson (Teresa); her daughter, Carol
14Dyson (Andrew Asher); her stepson, Robert Dyson (Beth); her 2
15grandchildren, John Asher and William Asher; her 3
16step-granddaughters, Jodi Hoffman, Lisa Meighan, and Leanna
17Hess; and her step-grandson, Ryan Dyson; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Margaret Dyson, and extend our sincere condolences to her
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
