2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Margaret Dyson of Champaign, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on August 19, 2015; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Margaret Dyson was born in 1918 in South Dakota; | ||||||
6 | she was valedictorian of her Madison High School class and | ||||||
7 | married John Dyson in 1941; she received her Ph.D. in Education | ||||||
8 | from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1977; | ||||||
9 | and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Margaret Dyson worked for the law firm of Martens | ||||||
11 | and Goldsmith in Pierre, South Dakota and the South Dakota | ||||||
12 | State Department of School and Public Lands; during World War | ||||||
13 | II, while her husband was an officer in the Army, she worked | ||||||
14 | for the Office of Price Administration in Washington, D.C. and | ||||||
15 | the engineering firm of Pate and Hern in Detroit, Michigan; for | ||||||
16 | 30 years, starting in 1964, she was employed as a learning | ||||||
17 | disabilities teacher for the Champaign Community Unit 4 | ||||||
18 | schools; she taught at Washington, South Side, Jefferson, and | ||||||
19 | other Champaign schools; after retirement, she volunteered as a | ||||||
20 | reading coach at Carrie Busey School; from 1975 to 1977, she | ||||||
21 | served as the Director of a Title III and Title IV-C education | ||||||
22 | project to teach reading by correspondence to elementary school | ||||||
23 | children; she was the founder and co-director of "Teacher in a |

1 | Mailbox"; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Margaret Dyson was a member of Mortarboard, Phi | ||||||
3 | Delta Kappa, and Kappa Delta Pi honorary fraternities; since | ||||||
4 | 1953, she and her husband were members of Wesley United | ||||||
5 | Methodist Church of Champaign; they enjoyed spending Christmas | ||||||
6 | with their family in Cedar Key and were frequently found | ||||||
7 | dancing with their friends at the University Club, the Elks, | ||||||
8 | the American Legion, and the Regency Ballroom; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Margaret Dyson was preceded in death by her | ||||||
10 | husband, John; her parents; and her sister, Sallie McMillan; | ||||||
11 | and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Margaret Dyson is survived by her 2 sons, John | ||||||
13 | Patrick Dyson and Stephen Dyson (Teresa); her daughter, Carol | ||||||
14 | Dyson (Andrew Asher); her stepson, Robert Dyson (Beth); her 2 | ||||||
15 | grandchildren, John Asher and William Asher; her 3 | ||||||
16 | step-granddaughters, Jodi Hoffman, Lisa Meighan, and Leanna | ||||||
17 | Hess; and her step-grandson, Ryan Dyson; therefore, be it
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | Margaret Dyson, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
21 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
22 | further
