SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Brenda Joyce Caldwell, who passed away on
4October 18, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Brenda Caldwell was born in SoSo, Mississippi on
6January 31, 1944 to John and Ernestine Moody; she graduated
7from Shady Oak High School in 1960, where she was an active
8member of the 4-H Club, Palace of Children, and the basketball
9team; she attended Central State University and Tennessee State
10University, where she majored in sociology, graduating in 1967
11with a Bachelor of Science; she married Wasdell "Was" Caldwell
12on April 29, 1966; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Later in life, Brenda Caldwell returned to school
14and enrolled in the University of Illinois at Chicago Jane
15Addams School of Social Work Master's Program; during this
16time, she worked a full and a part-time job, continued to take
17care of her home, and supported her daughter through her first
18year of college; she graduated in 1988, earning a Master of
19Social Work; she went on to obtain her license as a clinical
20social worker and was employed by the State of Illinois
21Department of Mental Health; she retired in 2003 after 36 years
22of public service; and

1    WHEREAS, Brenda Caldwell was baptized at Mount Pleasant
2Baptist Church; she was an active member of the church,
3participating in the BTU and the Usher Board, and was the
4secretary of Sunday school; on relocating to Illinois, she
5joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where, when able, she
6was a faithful and active member; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Brenda Caldwell was preceded in death by her
8parents; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Brenda Caldwell is survived by her husband of 49
10years, Wasdell; her 2 children, Michael and Michelle (Darnell);
11her grandchild, Malik Caldwell; her brother, John E. Moody; her
12sister, Belinda Simmons; her mother-in-law, Cordia Caldwell;
13her sister-in-law, Ann (Richard); Linda Jean (Ken); Mary; her
14brother-in-law, Frank Earl; and a host of nieces, nephews,
15cousins, and family friends; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Brenda Joyce Caldwell, and extend our sincere condolences to
19her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Brenda Caldwell as an expression of
