SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John Peter Clark, III of Oak Park, who
4passed away on June 4, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Peter Clark was born on May 6, 1942 in
6Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; he graduated from La Salle College
7High School in 1960 and the University of Notre Dame with a
8Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1964; he
9subsequently earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the
10University of California, Berkeley in 1968; and
 
11    WHEREAS, In 1972, Peter Clark joined the faculty at the
12Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he
13taught for six years; he then worked for the ITT Continental
14Baking Company as its director of research; in 1982, he moved
15to Oak Park and started a long career in consulting; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Peter Clark was the author of eight books and more
17than 40 papers and served as a contributing editor and
18columnist for Food Technology magazine; in 2011, he received
19the Life Achievement Award from the International Association
20for Engineering and Food; he was also a fellow of the American
21Institute of Chemical Engineering and the Institute of Food
22Technology; and

1    WHEREAS, Peter Clark was the President of the board and a
2volunteer at the Oak Park-River Forest Food Pantry; he was also
3an active member of the St. Giles Family Mass Community; he and
4his wife were longtime benefactors of the WFMT Folkstage
5program and enthusiastic supporters of the folk music
6community; they also regularly hosted traveling musicians in
7their home in Oak Park; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Peter Clark is survived by his wife, Nancy; his
9children, Shannon John (Usha Mishra) and Hannah (Peter Meehan);
10his grandchildren, Hazel, Avi, and Joan; his siblings, Mary
11Elizabeth Clark S.S.J., Mark, Teresa (John) Trudeau, Louis
12(Anne), Jimmy Clark (Angela Klaerner), and Victoria Clark
13(Jeffrey) Kauffman; and his many nephews and nieces; therefore,
14be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
17family and friends, mourn the passing of John Peter Clark, III;
18and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of J. Peter Clark, III as an expression
21of our sympathy.
