SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ronald E. Burling of Carthage, who passed away on October 9, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Burling was born on January 13, 1931 in Keokuk, Iowa; his parents were Herman and Sadie (nee Prendergast) Burling; he married Ruth Schrage on May 7, 1955 in Quincy; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Burling attended Pioneer Grade School from 1937 to 1945; he went on to graduate from Carthage High School in 1949 and attend Carthage College; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Burling proudly served his country in the Army National Guard during the Korean Conflict; he also took part in the Honor Flight on August 29, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Burling was a farmer for all of his life; he worked for 17 years at PCA and for 3 years at First State Bank; he also served as president of Bowen State Bank for 11 years; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Burling was a member of many church and community-related organizations; he was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church; he was a 60-year member of the American Legion, an active Knights of Columbus member, a 4-H leader, a Little League baseball coach, a member of the Memorial Hospital Board, and president of Ferris Grade School and the Hancock County Nursing Home; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Burling was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jim; his sisters, Mildred, Peg, Kay, and Martha; and his grandson, Jacob; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Burling is survived by his wife, Ruth Burling; his children, Mark (Joni) Burling, Dick (Jodi) Burling, Sara (Jeff) Kugler, Nancy (Mark) Pettit, Ronnie (Cathy) Burling, Molly (Byron) McCall, and Lisa (Bret) Clostermery; his grandchildren, Adam, Luke (Kortney), and Zack Burling, Michael, Kyle, Mason, and Kamryn Burling, Jennifer (Joe) Derr, Megan (Jay) Tomasek, Laura (Justin) Hawes, Gabriel (Cori) Pettit, Bethany (Zach) Middleton, Kara Pettit, Alison (Brian) Lox, Ryan, Kevin, and Emily Burling, Gracie and Sean McCall, and Bryce, Kelli, Reese, and Shaelyn Clostermery; his great-grandchildren, Annie, Olivia, Jillian, Sophia, Laine, Carter, Drake, Ashlyn, Reegan, and Elijah; his sister, Mary Wilkens; his sister-in-law, June Burling; and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Ronald E. Burling; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ronald Burling as an expression of our sympathy.
