| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Leonard Beetstra, who passed away on |
| 4 | | September 29, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Beetstra was born in Harvard on November |
| 6 | | 8, 1925 to Jacob and Griet Beetstra; he attended White Oaks |
| 7 | | School and Harvard High School; he served in the United States |
| 8 | | Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class aboard the USS |
| 9 | | Prichett, a Fletcher-class destroyer, and saw action in the |
| 10 | | Pacific Theater; later in life, he helped organize Pritchett |
| 11 | | reunions and enjoyed many years of attending annual ship's |
| 12 | | reunions around the country with his fellow sailors; he married |
| 13 | | Marion Koch in Harvard on June 18, 1949; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Beetstra was a licensed and bonded cattle |
| 15 | | dealer and was a well-known figure in farming circles |
| 16 | | throughout the area; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Beetstra was a lifetime member of the |
| 18 | | Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Loyal Order |
| 19 | | of Moose, and the Tin Can Sailors; he was also a 66-year member |
| 20 | | of the First Presbyterian Church of Harvard; and

| 21 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Beetstra was preceded in death by his |
