| 3 | | WHEREAS, The pet industry and animal advocates oppose the |
| 4 | | irresponsible breeding of dogs; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Every year, dogs are euthanized due to a range of |
| 6 | | factors, including behavioral issues that
make them |
| 7 | | unadoptable, geographic concentration, and public demand for |
| 8 | | certain breeds over others; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Responsible pet ownership begins with research |
| 10 | | and communication to find the ideal pet for
each individual |
| 11 | | circumstance and pet owners need to be diligent in researching |
| 12 | | the background and
breed requirements of any puppy they are |
| 13 | | purchasing or adopting to minimize the likelihood of
|
| 14 | | relinquishment; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois should continue to ensure |
| 16 | | that dogs are bred in a safe and secure
environment; therefore, |

| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
| 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate June 1, |
| 20 | | 2016 as "Healthy Puppy Day" in the State of Illinois in order |
| 21 | | to raise awareness of
