SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, Organ and tissue donation is a decision that can 
3save and enhance the lives of many people; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, The Gift of Hope & Tissue Donor Network is proud 
5to serve as a not-for-profit organ procurement organization 
6that coordinates organ and tissue donation and services to 
7families of donors in the State of Illinois; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Established in 1986, Gift of Hope has coordinated 
9donations that have saved the lives of more than 20,000 organ 
10transplant recipients and has improved the lives of hundreds of 
11thousands of tissue transplant recipients; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, An estimated 5 million people have joined the 
13organ and tissue donor registry in the State of Illinois; more 
14than 5,000 people are waiting on the transplant list and 300 of 
15those will pass away each year while waiting for a life-saving 
16organ; and

  
 
17    WHEREAS, Gift of Hope provides donor family services and 
18public education and works with 180 hospitals as one of 58 
19organ procurement organizations that make up the nation's organ 
20and tissue donation system; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL 
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate November 
312, 2015 as Gift of Hope Awareness Day in the State of Illinois 
4to increase awareness of the need for organ donation in the 
5State; and be it further
  
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7presented to Gift of Hope as a symbol of our respect and 
8unwavering support for their cause.
