SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mary Margo Butler of Chicago; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mary Butler was born in Harvey on January 18, 1924
5to George and Catherine Genemaras; she was baptized into the
6Greek Orthodox Church at an early age, but later became a
7member of the Faith Community of St. Sabina; she married
8William Carl Butler; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mary Butler managed her family's business, a
10newspaper stand located on the corner of 63rd and Cottage
11Grove, along with her sister, Helen, for many years; in 1992,
12she began her service as a volunteer at St. Sabina Academy; she
13chaperoned field trips for her 3 grandchildren, but is best
14known by the children at the Academy for running 2 book fair
15fund-raisers each school year; she was affectionately known as
16"The Book Fair Lady"; she later served as a part-time assistant
17in the school office; she also served as a volunteer on Sundays
18in the Fellowship Corner; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Mary Butler was affectionately called "Mauzi" by
20her children, grandchildren, and many other children that
21adopted her as a second mother; and

1    WHEREAS, Mary Butler was preceded in death by 5 of her
2siblings and her husband, William; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mary Butler is survived by her 4 children, Helen
4Aurelia, Bruce (Pamela), Tahanni, and Catherine; her 6
5grandchildren, Martin III, April, Justin, Charles, Demetrius
6(Marlene), and Kristin; her 7 great-grandchildren, Lauren,
7Chucky, Yasmine, Mariah, Craig, Gabriela, and Kemari; her
8sister, Tomasina; Stephanie, whom she served as a second mother
9to; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and
10friends; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Mary Margo Butler, and extend our sincere condolences to her
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Mary Butler as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
