SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of William Colbrook Curtin of Taylorville, who passed away on November 2, 2015; and

WHEREAS, William Curtin was born in Christian County on September 16, 1924 to Lawrence Frederick and Marie Ellen (nee Colbrook) Curtin; he served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater with a weapons platoon in the 26th infantry; he was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge and a Bronze Star, and battle stars for the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), Central Europe, and Rhineland Campaigns; he married Margaret Kathleen "Marty" Unser in Morrisonville on September 1, 1949; and

WHEREAS, William Curtin worked until retirement as a farmer and cattle breeder in the Stonington and Taylorville areas; he was a member of the Stonington American Legion, the Assumption Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Angus Association, the Illinois Angus Association, and the Christian/Montgomery County Livestock Feeders Associations; he was also active in several State cattle organizations and served as President of 3 of them in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s; and

WHEREAS, William Curtin served on the Christian County Historical Board for 25 years and was a Director of the State Bank of Blue Mound from 1981 to 2013; he was active in the Democratic Party throughout his life, serving on the Stonington Township Board of Auditors, the May Township Board of Trustees, and for 26 years on the Christian County Board, the last 8 years as Chairman; he was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church; and

WHEREAS, William Curtin was preceded in death by his wife, Marty; his parents; and his sister, Catherine (Kay) Trueblood; and

WHEREAS, William Curtin is survived by his 2 sons, Joseph Curtin and Ben Curtin (Linda); his daughter, Ellen Curtin; his grandchildren, Lori Parks (Tim), Jess Curtin, and Margeaux Craske-Curtin; his great-grandchildren, Ian Parks, Evan Parks, Elliot Parks, and Isaac Parks; his siblings, Leo Curtin (Nancy), Larry Curtin, Dorothy Tracy, Paul Curtin (Gail), and John Curtin (Alice); and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of William Colbrook Curtin, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of William Curtin as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
