SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William Colbrook Curtin of Taylorville,
4who passed away on November 2, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, William Curtin was born in Christian County on
6September 16, 1924 to Lawrence Frederick and Marie Ellen (nee
7Colbrook) Curtin; he served in the United States Army during
8World War II in the European Theater with a weapons platoon in
9the 26th infantry; he was awarded the Combat Infantryman's
10Badge and a Bronze Star, and battle stars for the Ardennes
11(Battle of the Bulge), Central Europe, and Rhineland Campaigns;
12he married Margaret Kathleen "Marty" Unser in Morrisonville on
13September 1, 1949; and
 
14    WHEREAS, William Curtin worked until retirement as a farmer
15and cattle breeder in the Stonington and Taylorville areas; he
16was a member of the Stonington American Legion, the Assumption
17Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Angus Association, the
18Illinois Angus Association, and the Christian/Montgomery
19County Livestock Feeders Associations; he was also active in
20several State cattle organizations and served as President of 3
21of them in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s; and
 
22    WHEREAS, William Curtin served on the Christian County

1Historical Board for 25 years and was a Director of the State
2Bank of Blue Mound from 1981 to 2013; he was active in the
3Democratic Party throughout his life, serving on the Stonington
4Township Board of Auditors, the May Township Board of Trustees,
5and for 26 years on the Christian County Board, the last 8
6years as Chairman; he was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, William Curtin was preceded in death by his wife,
9Marty; his parents; and his sister, Catherine (Kay) Trueblood;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, William Curtin is survived by his 2 sons, Joseph
12Curtin and Ben Curtin (Linda); his daughter, Ellen Curtin; his
13grandchildren, Lori Parks (Tim), Jess Curtin, and Margeaux
14Craske-Curtin; his great-grandchildren, Ian Parks, Evan Parks,
15Elliot Parks, and Isaac Parks; his siblings, Leo Curtin
16(Nancy), Larry Curtin, Dorothy Tracy, Paul Curtin (Gail), and
17John Curtin (Alice); and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be
18it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21William Colbrook Curtin, and extend our sincere condolences to
22his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
