SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charles M. Walker of Catlin, who passed
4away on September 19, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charles Walker was born on December 10, 1927 in
6Mize, Mississippi; his parents were Charles Green and Molly
7Little Walker; he married Gladys Forbes on October 1, 1948 in
8Shaw, Mississippi; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Charles Walker volunteered for the United States
10Navy at the age of 17; he served on a tanker transporting fuel
11from California to aircraft carriers and air bases in the South
12Pacific, China, the Aleutian Islands, Attu, Adak, Kodiak, and
13Anchorage, Alaska; he later served at new bases in Yokohama,
14Nagasaki, and Tokyo; he was discharged from the Navy in 1947
15and began farming; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Charles Walker graduated from an agricultural
17college under the GI Bill while farming; in 1955, he began
18working for Tennaco, a cross country pipeline company; in 1959,
19they transferred him to Danville and, while there, he made
20Catlin his home; in 1967, he founded Walker Real Estate in
21Danville; he continued working full time up until his passing;

1    WHEREAS, Charles Walker was a Real Estate Managing Broker
2for the State of Illinois; he was a member of the Danville Area
3Board of Realtors from 1975 until his passing and served on
4numerous committees throughout the years; he was also a member
5of the Farmland Institute and Realtor Land Institute and the
6National, State, and Local Association of Realtors and was a
7certified residential Real Estate Appraiser; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Charles Walker was a member of Calvary Baptist
9Church, where he taught Sunday school, and served on various
10committees and boards; he served as the treasurer for Vermilion
11County Museum and was a member of the Catlin Lions Club,
12Gideon's, the Danville Noon Kiwanis, and the Catlin Historical
13Society; he was also a member of the Homebuilders Association,
14Toastmasters, and the Christian Home for Youth; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Charles Walker was a past Catlin Citizen of the
16Year; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Charles Walker was preceded in death by his wife,
18Gladys; his parents; 4 brothers; 2 sisters; and his grandson,
19Chase; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Charles Walker is survived by his son, Cullen Z.
21(Constance) Walker; his daughter, Pam (Bill) Nave; his sister,

1Winnie Walker; his grandchildren, Chad Boyd, Cale (Jody) Boyd,
2Heather (Chris) Rabkin, Faithe (Rob) Collins, Charlie (April)
3Walker, and Cody (Miranda) Walker; and his 17
4great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
7family and friends, mourn the passing of Charles M. Walker; and
8be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Charles Walker as an expression of
11our sympathy.
